A military action thriller led by the Hemsworth brothers and Russell Crowe is heading back to streaming soon. After spending time on Netflix, the film is now set for a Hulu debut very soon. While its theatrical run was modest, the film found a much larger audience once it reached streaming platforms.
Land of Bad sets Hulu streaming date
According to Hulu press release, Land of Bad is heading to the platform on July 31, giving action fans another chance to check out the military thriller. The film stars Liam Hemsworth as Air Force Sgt. JJ Kinney, while Russell Crowe plays veteran drone pilot Capt. Eddie Grimm, better known by his call sign, “Reaper.” The supporting lineup features Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle, and Milo Ventimiglia, all playing key roles.
Directed by William Eubank, who co-wrote the script with David Frigerio, Land of Bad is about a mission gone sideways. The story follows a Delta Force operation in the southern Philippines that quickly unravels, leaving Sgt. JJ Kinney is stranded in hostile territory. With enemies closing in from all sides, his best shot at survival comes from a drone pilot thousands of miles away.
The film earned mixed-to-positive reviews from critics but connected strongly with audiences. It currently holds a 66% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers were far more enthusiastic, giving it a 93% audience score. On IMDb, the movie carries a respectable 6.6/10 rating from tens of thousands of movie fans.
Financially, the story was less impressive. The movie reportedly had an estimated budget of around $25 million and earned roughly $7 million worldwide during its theatrical run, rendering it a box-office disappointment of 2024.
The movie may not have set the box office on fire, but it found a second life once it hit streaming. Fans connected with its intense action, survival-against-the-odds story, and the performances from Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth. Thanks to strong word-of-mouth, Land of Bad turned into a surprise streaming hit, also becoming the #1 most-watched movie on Netflix at the time.
