Questlove Is Being Sued For Racial Discrimination
Since like mid-2015, we all somehow agreed that every you say or do is because you’re a racist or sexist and just didn’t realize it. I guess white people have finally caught on, because Questlove is being sued for $2M for being a racist. 2018 is wild, man. Per Page Six:
Last summer an unnamed “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” stagehand sent Decker and Cimino the unsolicited text that included “a piece of fried chicken with a bite out of it along with a racial slur that inevitably depicts African Americans,” their attorney Richard Roth told The Post. Roth declined to repeat the slur but said it included the n-word. The text was also sent to Roots bassist Mark Kelley. The Roots, led by drummer Questlove are Fallon’s house band on the late-night talk show. Neither cameraman responded to the message — which they received during the middle of a taping — and immediately told superiors that they had nothing to do with it, according to court papers. “Both were shocked to receive it and repulsed by its content,” the suit says. The day after receiving the text the cameramen were suspended. “Kelley, who is African-American, was not,” the suit says. They were later fired after Questlove allegedly demanded their heads, despite his own history of making controversial statements, according to court papers.
Wow, that sure is…something. In a statement to Pitchfork, Questlove had this to say.
“Questlove denies the ridiculous allegations made in this lawsuit,” his representative wrote on his behalf. “Racism is REAL and exists throughout the world and for these gentlemen to claim victim is not only disrespectful to Questlove and his bandmates, but to all that truly endure racism on a daily basis. As NBC already stated, the decisions made regarding these employees were made by NBC, alone.”
So, if I’m reading this right, a stagehand sent a racist text to a bunch of people and two of the white people who received it didn’t respond to it then reported it then got suspended because Questlove allegedly demanded that they get suspended then responded to the allegations that he got two white guys fired for receiving a racist text by saying “real racism exists and me demanding the jobs of two white guys who didn’t do anything wrong because they’re white doesn’t really count as racism.” Did I read that right? Maybe I didn’t. If I did, I know two white guys who’ll be voting for Trump in 2020. Thanks for nothing, Questlove! Big fan of your stuff though.
