For those of you who have yet to see 2017’s Logan, the final X-Men film to feature Hugh Jackman in the role of mutant crime-fighter Wolverine, there isn’t some big M. Night Shyamalan twist at the end where the villain pulls off his mask and reveals he’s actually Jerry Seinfeld. Besides, if anything, that would be more of a Scooby-Doo ending. But it turns out the comedian had more to do with the superhero’s demise than anyone would have guessed.

When he’s not busy snubbing celebrities like Ke$ha on the red carpet, Seinfeld is actually quite chummy with many of his fellow famous people. Namely, Hugh Jackman. According to an interview with Willem Dafoe from an upcoming episode of the Variety series Actors on Actors, Jackman walked away from the X-Men franchise table after a dinner with his good friend, who advised, “you should never spend everything creatively because it’s almost herculean to start up again. You should always have something in the tank.” Check out the video below for a little added backstory.

Strange advice from a guy who literally came out of retirement (more or less) with a new Netflix stand-up special a few months back? Perhaps. But if you ask us, he was just saying what we were all thinking — albeit, in a bit more dignified manner. You can’t play a mutant who doesn’t age forever, even if you’re practically immortal yourself.
