The Last Guardian’s Sales are a Disappointment

The Last Guardian‘s launch week sales in the UK have been revealed, with the game charting behind both Dead Rising 4 and Watch Dogs 2.

The game, which was ten years in the making and widely considered to be one of the most heavily anticipated games in history, only managed to reach seventh in the UK charts. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has managed to reclaim its place at the top of the chart, while EA’s FIFA 17 and Battlefield 1 take the number two and three spots.

While The Last Guardian has outsold creator Fumito Ueda’s other games in the region, with it charting higher than both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, this will still be a disappointment for Sony considering just how much time and effort has been put into the game over the course of the past decade. It’s worth noting that Chart-Track only takes into account physical and not digital sales, though as a PS4 exclusive it’s unlikely that downloads would have factored into its chart positioning too much.

Although the critical response to The Last Guardian has been largely positive, it looks like the game has struggled to attract consumers ahead of the Holidays. Chart-Track only compiles UK sales so we hope that it’s fared better in other regions, as it definitely deserves to be played by a wider audience.

Here’s the chart in full:

  1. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  2. FIFA 17
  3. Battlefield 1
  4. Final Fantasy XV
  5. Dead Rising 4
  6. Watch Dogs 2
  7. The Last Guardian
