His management said he passed away with his family at his bedside.

St Andrews Sporting Club confirmed Towell’s death in a tweet on Saturday morning.

“Within the last hour Mike Towell passed away – he will always be in our hearts #RIPIronMike,” it said.

The Dundee native was undefeated (11-0-1) going into Thursday’s fight. Against Evans, Towell was knocked down in the first round and again in the fifth before referee Victor Loughlin reportedly stopped the fight. Towell was then given oxygen and taken away to an ambulance via stretcher.
