Watch a New Preview Scene From ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’

Earlier this week, fans got an advance look at the new animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke in theaters across the United States. Now, if fans can’t wait for the film’s release next week on Blu-ray and DVD, there’s a new preview scene online.

USA Today debuted a scene from Batman: The Killing Joke‘s Barbara Gordon centric prologue, that finds Batgirl and Batman having some friction in their working relationship. For context, the two heroes have run up against a young mobster who has developed a very unhealthy fixation on Batgirl that goes to some very dark places. And that’s before the Joker even shows up in the film!

The original Batman: The Killing Joke graphic novel was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland back in 1988. It’s gone on to become one of the most popular Batman stories ever, but it definitely isn’t without controversy. There is a very famous sequence in which the Joker maimed a longstanding character in the Bat-family, and it’s been fiercely debated for years. The film has also redefined the traditional Batman and Batgirl relationship, which is already proving to be another firestorm of controversy. Whether that changes once more people see the film remains to be seen.

Batman: The Killing Joke will hit home video on Tuesday, August 2. You can read our advance review here.
