Danica Patrick is known for her career as a NASCAR driver, but she has also become increasingly vocal about politics. Now, Patrick has drawn attention for her reaction to a video of newly elected Texas Senator James Talarico discussing his favorite drag queen.
Danica Patrick questions James Talarico over drag
As per the US Weekly, the former NASCAR driver shared an old video of James Talarico on social media following his election victory. In the clip, Talarico mentioned his favorite drag queen. Patrick appeared unimpressed, captioning the video, “Seriously ??♀️”
When asked, “Who’s your favorite drag queen in Texas?” Talarico replied, “Oh gosh, probably Alyssa Edwards.”
The controversy did not end there. Ken Paxton also brought the clip into his Senate campaign, using Talarico’s answer in an attack ad. When Paxton shared the ad on social media, he wrote, “Meet Alyssa Edwads: James Talarico’s favorite sick and twisted drag queen.”
Alyssa Edwards responded on X, writing, “I’m not sure I fully understand your motive or intention in attempting to disparage my name, my character, or my reputation. But I do know this: the way we choose to speak about others often says far more about our own character than it ever will about theirs.”
“My life may look different from yours, but difference does not diminish character, faith, service, or a person’s ability to positively contribute to their community. Texas is big enough for all of us,” she added.
For context, Edwards is an American drag performer, choreographer, and television personality who gained international recognition through RuPaul’s Drag Race. She is not known for a connection to NASCAR, drifting, or professional car racing.
Patrick, 44, has repeatedly expressed support for Donald Trump and has become involved in conservative political commentary. Her reaction to Talarico’s video is also notable. This is because it appears to be her first publicly reported comment about the newly elected senator.
