Dr. Terry Dubrow discussed a new cosmetic trend involving fat tissue from deceased donors. The Botched star’s revelation left Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg disgusted during a recent podcast interview.
Terry Dubrow reveals the cadaver fat trend
According to E! News, Dubrow spoke about cadaveric fat transfers during the November 3 episode of The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show.
Dubrow introduced the trend by telling McCarthy Wahlberg, “The new thing is cadaveric fat transfer,” before asking, “Have you heard of this?” The actress reacted with disbelief and asked, “Does that mean from cadavers?” He replied, “Yes,” prompting a disgusted reaction from the host. He then added, “That’s the hot new thing.”
One product used for this procedure is AlloClae, an injectable body-contouring material made from donated human fat tissue. According to its manufacturer, the product contains non-living fat cells, extracellular matrix, triglycerides, and connective tissue. Its processing preserves the tissue’s natural three-dimensional structure, allowing doctors to add volume without traditional surgery.
Dubrow also discussed how specialists prepare the donated tissue. “It’s been processed and radiated and stuff like that. But there’s different kinds of cadaver fat. One of the kinds, there’s no cells in it. It’s just the matrix and you injected it and your own fat grows into it,” he explained.
The 68-year-old surgeon reiterated, “That’s the hot thing right now.”
Although cadaveric fat transfers are relatively new in cosmetic procedures, dentists have long used donated human tissue. They use processed and sterilized bone from deceased donors for procedures such as bone grafting and socket preservation. McCarthy Wahlberg also revealed that she was familiar with this practice from her own dental surgeries.
However, the actress remained uncomfortable with the idea. “Nevertheless, I don’t think I want cadaver’s fat,” she said.
