Jenny McCarthy has revealed the shocking lengths she went to while dealing with a two-year health scare. After receiving a mold poisoning diagnosis, the 53-year-old moved out of her home and began living in a tent in her backyard.
Jenny McCarthy says mold exposure fears led her to live in a tent
During the October 28 episode of her podcast, The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, the Masked Singer judge and former Playboy model opened up about her health struggles. She recalled the difficult experiences she had faced over the past two years.
She began by saying, “I have been dying to tell you this story because the last two years of my life have been absolutely fricking insane. Some of you guys already know that I’ve been dealing with mold and mycotoxin poisoning. I’ve talked about pieces of it before.”
McCarthy said she went “down a rabbit hole of doctors, surgeries, teeth being pulled, mysterious growths popping up in places you are not expecting, implants literally falling out, and eventually realizing my immune system was fighting something so much bigger.”
She added, “At one point, you know, I was just so desperate to heal that I literally was living in a tent. That’s right, living in a tent!”
The actress said her ordeal began with a recurring root canal infection that required multiple surgeries throughout 2025. She also developed recurring cysts on her eyelids and underwent months of painful procedures.
Following her reported diagnosis, McCarthy began taking numerous vitamins and supplements. She also hired specialists to remove mold from her home.
“I’m still in my mold detox, you guys,” McCarthy said. She explained that her recovery was ongoing and that she had reached her seventh month of treatment. The actress also admitted that she remained too afraid to live anywhere other than a tent.
McCarthy married actor Donnie Wahlberg in 2014. She also has a son, Evan Joseph Asher, from a previous relationship. As she continues her recovery, the actress remains cautious about returning to indoor living following her reported mold exposure.
