Teddi Mellencamp has shared an unexpected update about her marriage to Edwin Arroyave. Although their relationship has ended, the former couple remains legally married. Teddi recently explained why they put their divorce proceedings on hold.
Teddi reveals why Edwin Arroyave is still legally her husband
During an October 27 appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Teddi discussed their divorce. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum confirmed that they had not finalized their divorce. “So one, we’re technically not divorced,” she explained.
However, Teddi made it clear that their marriage was over. “But I mean, it is so over,” she added. She also revealed that Edwin has a serious girlfriend, whom she described as “great” and “amazing.”
Teddi explained that her ongoing medical challenges delayed the divorce proceedings. She and Edwin announced their separation in November 2024 after 13 years of marriage. However, her cancer diagnosis changed the circumstances surrounding their legal process.
“I realized I was having a brain tumor as we were in the middle of the divorce,” Teddi recalled. She said doctors determined that she was not in a position to continue. “I had a doctor’s note,” she added.
Teddi has faced an extensive health battle, including treatment for brain tumors. Her diagnosis ultimately required her to prioritize medical care. As a result, the divorce proceedings were put on hold.
Despite their separation, Teddi said Edwin has remained supportive. She described him as someone who has “been there like a rock” throughout her illness. Her father, musician John Mellencamp, also encouraged Edwin to support her.
Teddi recalled her father telling Edwin that their past disagreements no longer mattered. He urged Edwin to focus on helping her survive and reach remission. According to Teddi, that conversation completely changed Edwin’s attitude.
She also explained that their relationship has changed since they stopped being romantically involved. “I will call him sometimes when I’m upset and be like, ‘Help me get out of this funk,’” she shared. Both have reportedly moved on romantically but continue supporting each other.
