Martha Stewart faces criticism over lavish pastry spread
The American businesswoman shared photos of the baked goods on Instagram after receiving them from a bakery in Brooklyn. In the caption, she thanked baker Chad Robertson for sending the assortment for her to sample.
“Chad Robertson @tartinebaker has arrived in brooklyn and opened his own establishment @altaubakery He kindly sent up an assortment of breads and pastries to sample Sooooo good!!!”
“Thank you @rachelshechtman for introducing me to a new place We have loved Tartine for years!” she added.
The Instagram post drew critical reactions from users who connected it to her Halloween costume. One commenter wrote, “Pass some out to the homeless!” Another added, “I guess you have moved on.”
Other users also questioned the timing of the post. “Posting food after the debacle is diabolical,” one person commented, while another wrote, “Guess she’s not hungry anymore?”
“Is that what you’re giving to the homeless?,” one user asked sarcastically. Another commented, “Glad you aren’t hungry anymore.”
The criticism followed Stewart’s Halloween appearance, for which she dressed as a homeless person. She wore distressed jeans and a torn sweater, applied makeup to make her face look dirty, and held a cardboard sign that read, “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!”
As per Page Six, Stewart later addressed the reaction, explaining that she had intended to draw attention to homelessness rather than offend anyone.
“I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention,” the writer expressed.
Despite her explanation, the pastry post prompted further criticism from social media users who continued to question the contrast between her costume and the food she shared.
