Donald Trump boasted about his cognitive test results during an Ohio rally before taking a swipe at fellow Republicans.
During Wednesday’s midterm rally, Trump described himself as a “very high IQ person” and claimed that other political figures could not pass the cognitive tests he had taken.
Donald Trump claims fellow Republicans couldn’t pass his cognitive tests
Trump first compared himself with former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
“Obama couldn’t have passed them; Biden we don’t even talk about,” Trump said.
According to Huffpost, he then turned his criticism toward fellow Republicans.
“Republicans wouldn’t have passed them,” he added. “I won’t mention names ’cause I’m supposed to be a nice Republican.”
Trump made the cognitive test remarks while discussing controversy surrounding Alaska’s U.S. Senate race during his Ohio rally.
The source said Trump appeared to be referring to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, or MoCA. The screening test is designed to identify possible cognitive impairment rather than measure intelligence, according to the report.
However, Trump linked his performance on the tests to his intelligence and claimed he was the only president willing to take them.
His claims about his intelligence quickly drew criticism online.
Progressive commentator Alex Cole contrasted Trump’s remarks with Obama’s academic achievements and criticized the president for seeking praise for passing a cognitive screening.
Another social media user argued that Trump had insulted fellow Republicans by suggesting they could not pass the tests.
Another critic questioned Trump’s attempt to link cognitive screening results with IQ, noting that the tests do not measure intelligence.
Trump did not identify which Republicans he believed would fail the examinations.
His criticism remained broad, as he declined to name specific Republicans and joked about being a “nice Republican.”
The Trump Republicans cognitive test remark turned what began as another defense of his mental abilities into criticism of his own political allies.
