Olivia Colman Reveals Marriage Secret After Saying She ‘Feels Nonbinary’

Olivia Colman has revealed the secret behind her long-lasting marriage to Ed Sinclair. The actress admitted that neither she nor her husband likes conflict. However, they have learned the importance of talking through their issues over the years.

Olivia Colman explains how she and Ed Sinclair avoid arguments after 25 years of marriage

While promoting her new film Wicker, Colman was asked by TikTok couple Benedict and Hannah Townsend how she and her husband had kept their marriage going. The 52-year-old replied, “Be kind to each other, and we’ve learned over the years to try not to let things… oh hang on, I heard one person who had been married about 50 years say, ‘Sometimes it’s the things you don’t say.’ Which was very wise, but not everyone will agree with that, so wait for the right moment to bring it up in a nice way.”

The Crown star revealed that arguments are rarely part of her marriage. The couple married in August 2001, but their relationship began long before they exchanged vows. Their love story started in the 1990s when they met at Cambridge University. They worked on a production of Alan Ayckbourn’s Table Manners through Cambridge Footlights, the university’s student sketch comedy society.

Colman explained, “I’m not a conflict person, nor is my husband, but we’ve learned over the years to definitely try and talk about, you know, ‘That thing on Tuesday, can we talk about that?’ in a calm way and then it works well.” The actress added that this approach often works well for them. Sometimes, neither of them even remembers the incident. However, if one of them feels hurt, they make an effort to talk it through. Colman also acknowledged that some couples prefer to resolve disagreements in the heat of the moment. However, she said that approach does not work for her.

The actress shared her relationship advice months after speaking about her feelings around gender identity. During an interview with Them, Colman said, “Throughout my whole life, I’ve had arguments with people where I’ve always felt sort of nonbinary. Don’t make that a big sort of title! But I’ve never felt massively feminine in my being female. I’ve always described myself to my husband as a gay man. And he goes, “Yeah, I get that.”
