Dax Shepard has revealed that he flirted with Kate Hudson while she was still married to Chris Robinson. The actor recalled trying to impress Hudson during a poker night at her brother Oliver Hudson’s house. Although nothing happened between them initially, Shepard got another chance after her separation in 2007.
The revelation came during a conversation with Erin and Sara Foster on Shepard and Monica Padman’s podcast, Armchair Expert. The discussion also covered entertainment, family relationships, childhood experiences, and growing up in the spotlight.

During a conversation with Erin and Sara Foster on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Shepard opened up about his early interactions with Hudson. He recalled playing poker at her brother Oliver’s house when she joined the game. Although Hudson was still married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, Shepard admitted that her relationship status did not stop him from trying to impress her.
“I gave her 111% of any charm I have, right?” Shepard recalled, describing Hudson as “so f***ing beautiful.” He also admitted that he had a crush on her.
Shepard said he left that evening feeling he had done his best to impress Hudson, although nothing happened between them at the time. However, he got another opportunity after Hudson and Robinson separated in 2007.
The actor recalled attending a dinner in Malibu at Steve Brill’s invitation, where he discovered that Hudson was single. Hoping to recreate the chemistry from their first meeting, Shepard decided to try his luck again.
“And she’s now single and I’m like, let’s see if we can f***ing muster up this magic and get it going again. And then I got it going again,” he said.
His second attempt proved more successful, as the two began dating shortly afterward. Their relationship lasted a few months before they eventually parted ways.
Looking back on their brief romance, Shepard recalled how his initial attempt to impress Hudson at a poker game eventually led to a relationship after her marriage ended.
