Peg Munson reveals she walked away from Mel Owens despite still being in love
Munson, 63, announced the breakup in an Instagram video on Wednesday, October 21. She revealed that the separation followed a particularly difficult period. The retired firefighter also thanked fans for supporting her throughout the past year.
“I’m really sorry that I haven’t spoken out sooner, but it’s been a really difficult 30 days for me,” Munson explained. She recalled joining The Golden Bachelor hoping to find love. “And you know for that, I’m grateful,” she added.
Munson admitted that ending the relationship was her decision. “I did have to make the difficult decision to step away from the relationship,” she shared. She then acknowledged that love alone couldn’t guarantee the outcome she wanted.
“Sometimes even when there’s love, it just doesn’t turn out the way that we hoped,” Munson explained. Although she didn’t disclose the reasons behind their separation, she shared her immediate priorities. She is now focused on healing and prioritizing her health.
“I really do just really wish Mel the best of luck, and I’m very grateful for the experience,” Munson said. She also expressed appreciation for all the supportive messages she received. Her Instagram caption reinforced her determination to move forward.
“This is not the end of my story. It’s the beginning of a new chapter,” she wrote. The statement offered fans a glimpse into her outlook following the breakup. Munson also encouraged followers to stay connected as she begins this next chapter.
The Golden Bachelor split marks the end of a relationship that began during the show’s second season. Owens, 67, selected Munson during the finale, which aired last year. However, he chose to express his commitment rather than propose.
Their last joint Instagram post appeared in September, featuring a playful conversation about what to call a faucet. Now, Munson’s Peg Munson statement confirms their relationship has ended.
