According to Deadline, the documentary will revisit the band’s history, including the personal upheavals that unfolded alongside its musical success. Apple TV promises never-before-seen footage alongside new and archival interviews. The interviews include the late Christine McVie, as well as reflections from Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The film will also explore the band’s enduring legacy and a catalog that has sold more than 220 million records worldwide.

The documentary has plenty of material to explore, including the making of Rumours in 1976 and 1977. The album was created during a turbulent period for the band members. Nicks and Buckingham had ended their relationship, while John and Christine McVie were separating. Mick Fleetwood was also dealing with the collapse of his marriage. Despite the personal turmoil, the band channeled those experiences into an album that became one of its defining releases.

Buckingham’s “Go Your Own Way” addressed his breakup with Nicks, while Nicks’ “Dreams” offered her own perspective on their fractured relationship. The band’s ability to transform personal pain into music became a defining part of Rumours’ legacy.

The documentary’s title, The Chain, also reflects the complicated relationships between the band members. “The Chain” is notable for being the only song on Rumours credited to all five members of the classic lineup.

Marshall has previously directed music documentaries about the Bee Gees and the Beach Boys. He is set to produce The Chain through The Kennedy/Marshall Company alongside White Horse Pictures.
