While the documentary’s title and release date remain unannounced, Mike Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason are set to produce it. Netflix confirmed the news in an October 21 post on Tudum. It stated, “Production is underway on a documentary film untangling the story of what came next for the Gosselin family, featuring interviews with Jon Gosselin, Collin Gosselin, and Hannah Gosselin.”
“The new documentary pieces together the story from the perspectives of the children who grew up on camera, the adults who built a brand around them, and the audience that couldn’t look away,” the announcement further read.
Jon & Kate Plus 8 aired for 11 seasons from 2007 to 2017. The series followed Jon and his then-wife, Kate Gosselin, as they raised their eight children. Following their 2009 divorce, the show continued as Kate Plus 8. The series first aired on Discovery Health before moving to TLC. During its run, it became one of TLC’s highest-rated programs.
Netflix’s announcement follows Collin’s recent appearance on ABC News to promote his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight. The book, released on October 13, details his experiences growing up in the Gosselin family. The 22-year-old alleged that his mother became abusive after divorcing Jon. He said, “Simply put, my whole life that I lived was a lie. All the things you see on TV [are] lies.”
During a 2016 interview with ABC News, Kate addressed Collin’s treatment, saying he needed help with educational and social challenges. At the time, she called it “the best thing I can do for him right now.”
