Wynonna Judd and Naomi Judd were both celebrated singers of their respective generations, and their names continue to hold a special place in the music world. Naomi passed away at the age of 76, but her daughter still cherishes the memories they shared. Recently, Wynonna recalled what her mother told her before her death.
Why the country star says her mother’s death did not come as a shock
The American singer recently appeared on the latest episode of CNN’s All There Is With Anderson Cooper, where she discussed her career and personal life. During the conversation, Wynonna Judd revealed that her mother Naomi Judd’s death did not come as a shock to her.
The country star said, “No. She talked about it a lot, even to her grandson who’s a deputy, about jumping off a bridge. And she talked about it so much with me. I don’t know who else, besides [Wynonna’s sister] Ashley [Judd], but she talked about it a lot. And I think I got to the point where, ‘no, no, no, no, no, no. You’re not gonna do that. You have too much to live for.’”
“I just remember thinking, ‘What is she doing? I don’t understand.’ And she’d call me and say, ‘I don’t want to be here anymore.’ And I’d go over and spend the night with her. And it was awful. It was really awful. She was really struggling in the end,” she added.
For context, renowned American country singer Naomi Judd died on April 30, 2022, at the age of 76. Her daughter Ashley later confirmed that her mother died by suicide. The Turn It Loose star had reportedly struggled for years with serious mental health challenges, including depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. The actress died just one day before she and her daughter, Wynonna Judd, were scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
