Amber Portwood opened up about the stability she has found in her current relationship. The former Teen Mom star said her boyfriend’s calm personality balances her own and helps her manage everyday life.
Portwood has kept her partner’s identity largely private. However, she revealed that they have been together for almost a year and described him as an important source of support.

“For me, my boyfriend, who I have been with for almost a year now, he’s my anchor,” Portwood said in an October 8 YouTube video.
She explained that her new boyfriend comes from a quiet family and has a personality very different from hers. “He’s very calm. Comes from a very sweet Catholic family. They don’t cuss. They don’t do stuff like that,” she said.
Portwood believes those differences have helped their relationship. She compared their personalities to opposites that balance each other and stressed the importance of having supportive people around her.
“It’s like a positive needs a negative to get together and make it,” she explained. Portwood also said people in her life need to understand her, particularly when it comes to her mental health.
Although she has not revealed her boyfriend’s full name, Portwood previously offered a few details about the mystery man. In June 2025, she confirmed that she had quietly started seeing someone. At the time, she said he had held the same job for more than 20 years and came from North Carolina.
“He’s got this thick accent — mountain accent because he’s from North Carolina — and he’s super sweet to me,” Portwood said.
According to OK! Magazine, her current relationship followed a difficult breakup with former fiancé Gary Wayt in 2024. Wayt disappeared during their engagement before authorities later confirmed he was safe. The situation ended their relationship and also exposed Portwood to intense online speculation.
Portwood later recalled fearing that something terrible had happened to him. She also described the distress she experienced when people online accused her of being responsible for his disappearance.
Her romantic history has played out publicly for years. Portwood previously had relationships with Gary Shirley, Matt Baier, Andrew Glennon and Dimitri Garcia.
For now, she has focused on the stability she says her current boyfriend brings into her life. His quieter personality, according to Portwood, has given her the balance she values in a relationship.
