Wynonna Judd is pushing back after longtime friend Rosie O’Donnell publicly described her as a Donald Trump supporter. The country singer says the claim surprised her because she and O’Donnell have never actually discussed politics.

Judd addressed the situation in a new interview with People. The singer said she was shocked to hear O’Donnell characterize her political views publicly.
According to Judd, politics has simply never been part of their friendship. She also described herself as an independent and said she generally avoids political conversations.
The controversy began in August when O’Donnell appeared on The Tangle with Kyle Ridley. During that conversation, O’Donnell said Judd was the one Trump supporter she remained close to, despite their decades-long friendship and differing views.
Now, however, Judd says O’Donnell never asked her about her political beliefs. That distinction appears to be the source of Judd’s frustration.
Still, Judd said she was not angry with O’Donnell. Instead, she questioned why someone she has known for decades would make that assumption without speaking to her first.
Judd and O’Donnell have been friends for roughly 30 years. O’Donnell has also remained one of Donald Trump’s most vocal celebrity critics. Their public feud dates back to the 2000s and has continued through his presidency.
For Judd, though, the latest dispute is less about Trump and more about being accurately represented.
The singer has previously tried to keep some distance from partisan labels. She also emphasized that she prefers focusing on areas where people can find common ground.
Meanwhile, Judd has plenty of other things occupying her attention. Her new album, The Hard Truth, arrived Oct. 2. She has also been speaking candidly about her family, including her strained relationship with daughter Grace Kelley.
For Wynonna Judd, the takeaway appears straightforward.
Whatever O’Donnell believes about her politics, Judd says the two never actually had that conversation.
