Brad Pitt’s distance from his children reportedly remains the most painful consequence of his split from Angelina Jolie, according to someone close to the actor.
Although the Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie divorce became one of Hollywood’s most contentious breakups, an insider claimed that the breakdown of Pitt’s relationships with his children affected him more than the divorce itself.

“The divorce from Angelina was bad but the alienation from his children was the worst thing that ever happened to him,” an insider said.
Several of Pitt and Jolie’s children stopped using their father’s surname. Shiloh, Maddox and Zahara have legally dropped “Pitt” from their names, while Vivienne has filed a petition to do the same. Knox reportedly graduated from high school using “Knox Jolie.” Pax uses the Jolie-Pitt surname publicly.
The fractured family relationships followed Jolie and Pitt’s 2016 separation. Jolie accused Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and their children following an alleged confrontation aboard a private plane. Authorities investigated the incident, but Pitt did not face criminal charges. He has consistently denied the abuse allegations.
According to Closer, people close to the former couple have given conflicting accounts of the family breakdown. Someone close to Jolie claimed Pitt’s strained relationship with the children resulted from his own actions.
A person close to Pitt, meanwhile, said he had moved from “hurt and pain to acceptance” and believed the family needed to move beyond the hostility surrounding the breakup.
Pitt recently attended the Heart of the Beast premiere in Franklin, Tennessee, with girlfriend Ines de Ramon. An insider said Pitt preferred the event away from Los Angeles because he wanted a more low-key environment.
Another person close to Pitt said he had built a close circle around himself that included family, longtime friends and De Ramon. The insider described the relationship as meaningful while acknowledging that his continued estrangement from his children remained painful.
Years after Pitt and Jolie’s relationship ended, people close to both sides continue to disagree over responsibility. Those close to Pitt maintain that losing closeness with his children has caused him the greatest personal pain.
