Ed Sheeran’s planned weekend at Gillette Stadium vanished after severe weather threatened New England. The singer’s Friday and Saturday concerts were canceled as a nor’easter approached Massachusetts.
The venue belonged to Robert Kraft’s New England Patriots, adding another twist to Sheeran’s tour. The shows already faced fallout after Macklemore’s removal and a planned protest.
Ed Sheeran’s two Gillette Stadium concerts canceled as severe nor’easter approaches New England
According to TMZ, sources confirmed both concerts were canceled because of the weather. A Kraft representative said stadium officials had watched the forecast closely for the past week. “Due to the severe weather forecast throughout the weekend, the tour has made the difficult decision to cancel,” the representative said.
The representative added that fan and staff safety remained the priority. Refunds became available through the original purchase point, while Ticketmaster buyers received automatic refunds. Stage construction had already stopped Thursday as officials assessed the storm. Fox Weather forecast one to two inches of rain in Foxborough, with winds reaching 40 mph.
The cancellation also landed amid drama surrounding Macklemore. Kraft had played a role in removing the rapper after his pro-Palestinian remarks. Macklemore had said “Free Palestine” during an earlier tour stop. His removal prompted other opening acts and Sheeran’s backing band to leave the tour.
Sheeran then performed alone in Philadelphia last weekend. Massachusetts Peace Action also planned to protest Saturday’s Gillette Stadium concert. The group advocated for an end to the conflict. The weather cancellation arrived one day after Macklemore criticized Sheeran and Kraft.
Macklemore announced his “Free Palestine Tour” shortly before the concerts were scrapped. The timing added another twist. Before the cancellation, Sheeran had been expected to perform without the original supporting lineup. The Gillette dates were set for September 25 and 26.
The stadium promoted the shows as Sheeran’s return after 2023. He previously set Gillette Stadium’s single-show attendance record. For now, the New England concerts ended before fans could see Sheeran take the stage. Mother Nature ultimately made the call.
