Kim Kardashian revealed a new health diagnosis in The Kardashians Season 8 trailer, and the moment quickly became personal. Her esophagitis affects the esophagus, the same organ where her late father, Robert Kardashian, developed cancer. The new trailer also showed Kim Kardashian in a hospital gown as her family reacted to the diagnosis. The moment comes as The Kardashians Season 8 prepares to return to Hulu in October.
Kim Kardashian reveals esophagitis diagnosis with connection to dad Robert Kardashian’s cancer
According to E! News, Kim Kardashian said in the trailer, “I have something called esophagitis.” Someone off camera then referenced Robert Kardashian and asked whether that was what he died from. Kardashian answered, “Yeah.”
The connection is notable, but the conditions are not the same. Esophagitis involves inflammation of the esophagus. Robert Kardashian died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at age 59, only weeks after his diagnosis.
Kim Kardashian’s diagnosis therefore carries a family association without meaning that she has cancer. The trailer did not reveal the cause or severity of her esophagitis. It also did not explain what treatment she received.
The health update adds another medical development to Kardashian’s recent time on the show. She previously revealed a small brain aneurysm during The Kardashians Season 7 and later underwent additional scans.
That earlier scare played out across Season 7. Kim Kardashian later said she underwent more brain scans at Cedars-Sinai and reassured viewers that “everything works out.” Her new esophagitis reveal brings another health issue into the spotlight during Season 8.
The medical moment appeared in the same Season 8 trailer that teased major developments for the wider Kardashian-Jenner family. Kendall Jenner also addressed long-running rumors involving Cara Delevingne.
For Kim Kardashian, however, the diagnosis carries a personal connection because of her father’s history. Robert’s death has remained a significant part of the family’s story for more than two decades.
The Kardashians Season 8 premieres October 8 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
