Sai De Silva is showing a more honest side of herself on “The Real Housewives of New York City.” Her personal struggles have also made her look back at how she treated others on the show. Now the reality star claims she’s learnt from those experiences. She wants to take responsibility for the person she was in earlier seasons.
RHONY star Sai De Silva takes ownership of how she treated Jessel Taank after her separation from David Craig gave her a different perspective
In the Season 16 premiere, De Silva told Jessel Taank that she and her husband, David Craig, were estranged after years of marital issues. De Silva had previously presented a happier picture of their marriage on the show. She also often criticized Taank’s relationship with her husband, Pavit Randhawa. That history made it important for De Silva to address her past behavior with Taank.
De Silva said her experiences changed the way she sees other people. “The way I handled things back then is not necessarily the way I would handle things now,” she told Decider. She explained that she has become “more empathetic to others” and opened parts of her heart that had stayed closed. De Silva said she now wants to “take ownership of everything” and live as her authentic self.
The reality star also admitted that she was not always kind in earlier seasons. “I do consider myself a kind person, but sometimes in past seasons, I was not,” De Silva said. She wanted to “redeem” herself this season by being honest about her growth. Taank accepted De Silva’s apology during their emotional conversation in the premiere.
De Silva also felt nervous about sharing her marriage struggles on reality TV. “Anytime you open up about your personal life, you open yourself up to other people’s opinions,” she said. Still, she finds talking about her experiences “therapeutic” and feels comfortable showing her real self. “This is me; this is who I am,” De Silva said, adding, “Take it or leave it.”
