Barbara Eden Reveals ‘Nasty’ Truth Behind Her Last-Minute Cinecon Cancellation

Barbara Eden quickly reassured fans after her sudden Cinecon cancellation sparked concern about her health. The actress explained that a new medication, rather than an illness, caused side effects that forced her to stay home.

Eden had been expected at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles on September 5. Her last-minute withdrawal came hours before the event, leaving fans concerned after organizers initially described her absence as a sudden illness.

Eden addressed the confusion on Instagram, writing, “It’s OK everyone! I’m OK!” She explained there had been “a bit of miscommunication” surrounding her condition. The actress said her doctor had recently prescribed a brand-new medication, which caused “some nasty side effects” and prompted her doctor to order her to remain home.

“What awful timing for this to happen!” Eden wrote, according to Us Magazine. She added that the setback was “just a speedbump” and expected to return soon.

Cinecon announced the cancellation on Facebook, saying Eden could no longer appear “due to a sudden illness.” The festival said she regretted missing the appearance and had looked forward to celebrating with attendees. Although Eden could not attend, organizers still honored her. Her All Hands on Deck co-star Pat Boone accepted the Cinecon Legacy Award on her behalf following the screening.

Before her clarification, Eden shared an emotional message about missing the celebration. She said the cancellation had been “so difficult” because she had looked forward to seeing Boone. “I have been looking forward to seeing Pat and reminiscing about our time together filming All Hands on Deck!” she wrote via Facebook, according to the publication.

Eden also reflected on her career and fan support. She mentioned I Dream of Jeannie, Harper Valley PTA, and appearances alongside Lucille Ball, Paul Newman, Andy Griffith and Bob Hope. “Over the years you, my fans, have enhanced my life and deeply touched my heart!” Eden wrote. She called fans worldwide a gift she never expected.

For now, Eden remains focused on recovering from the medication’s side effects. She promised to get “out and about” once her doctor gave her the go-ahead.
