Sarah Ferguson’s UK Return After Meghan Markle’s Move Comes at a Curious Time — Expert

Sarah Ferguson reportedly appears ready to return to the UK after months abroad, and the timing has raised royal eyebrows. The former Duchess of York is supposedly moving into a six-bedroom gated property.

The 66-year-old is said to be settling in the Home Counties after leaving Royal Lodge six months ago. Her return follows Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s extended UK move.

Sarah Ferguson is returning to the UK, with her grandchildren and a potential inheritance reportedly influencing the timing

Ferguson is moving into a £10,000-a-month property after spending much of 2026 abroad. She was reportedly spotted in Austria and Switzerland. Royal editor Emily Nash told HELLO! Magazine’s A Right Royal Podcast that there were a “couple of things” behind Ferguson’s timing. One involved Paddy McNally, her late ex-boyfriend. Reports suggested Ferguson could inherit money from McNally, whose Swiss property she had reportedly been staying in.

Nash also pointed to a more sentimental reason. “But I think probably the key thing for her will be her grandchildren and wanting to spend more time with them,” she said. “She’s just welcomed a new granddaughter, Adelaide.” Princess Eugenie recently welcomed Adelaide, her third child with Jack Brooksbank. Eugenie and Jack remained based in Portugal but traveled back and forth. Beatrice also had children nearby.

“And what grandmother doesn’t want to be closer to them? She can’t live in exile forever,” Nash added. Ferguson’s return also comes as she and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor live separately. They had shared Royal Lodge for two decades, once calling themselves the “happiest divorced couple” in the world.

Andrew remains under investigation over alleged misconduct and Ferguson also faces scrutiny over her past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Nash also questioned whether Ferguson might speak with those investigating Andrew. “Because she will have information that people absolutely want to hear,” she said.

For now, Ferguson reportedly wants to live privately in the Home Counties. Nash said financing the move should not be a problem, noting Ferguson had succeeded at “finding means.”

She was also reportedly bombarded with television interview requests upon returning, adding another wrinkle to her fresh start. After months away, Fergie’s return looks less like a royal comeback and more like a family homecoming.
