More than two years after Joe Biden’s widely criticized 2024 debate against Donald Trump, Jill Biden says she still cannot explain what happened that night. The former first lady addressed several theories about her husband’s performance, including speculation that someone may have drugged him.

During The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Jill said about Biden that the former president had been traveling and was tired before the debate.
“I mean, there’s all kinds of theories. You know, he had been traveling,” she said. “I know he was tired. He didn’t feel well that day when I saw him, but there was nothing definitive that I could point to.”
When asked by Lima if someone may have “laced his drink or something,” Jill responded, “Who knows? Who knows, right?”
She said doctors checked Biden immediately after the debate and told her he was fine.
“Joe and I both had a team of doctors around both of us at all times. He had a team, I had a team, as all first ladies and presidents have. And yeah, they checked him out,” Jill explained.
However, she shared that what still puzzles her is how quickly Biden appeared to recover. She said he attended several events that night and later continued his public schedule. “It was, like, such an aberration,” Jill said. “… I can’t figure it out. That is my honest-to-God true answer. I don’t know [what happened].”
Jill previously said the debate frightened her because she had never seen Biden perform that way before. Her words were, “I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never. I don’t know what happened.”
With so many theories surrounding the debate, Jill still believes speculation about that night will continue. “And it will go on forever, I’m sure,” she said.
