Ana Navarro Makes Surprising Confession About Voting Against Donald Trump

“The View” co-host Ana Navarro has opened up about her longtime Republican voting habits. However, her voting pattern changed when she supported Hillary Clinton in 2016. Since then, her views on party loyalty have also shifted.

Ana Navarro challenges the idea that voters must remain loyal to one political party

During Friday’s Hot Topics discussion on The View, Navarro explained how her views on political loyalty changed after she voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. According to The Wrap, the discussion came as the hosts considered whether their political views had ever changed over time.

Navarro said people should not feel obligated to vote for the same party throughout their lives.

“I think this idea that if you’re born a Republican, you have to die a Republican, or if you’re born a Democrat, you have to die a Democrat, is intellectually lazy, because that means that when you’re looking at candidates and when you’re looking at races, the only thing that matters is whether it’s an R or a D behind the name,” she said.

Navarro admitted that she once followed that approach when voting.

“So I was like that. I would vote down the ballot Republican my entire life since I became a citizen,” she explained.

Navarro said 2016 marked the first time she broke from that voting pattern when she chose Clinton over Donald Trump.

She also acknowledged that making the change was difficult.

“It was a hard thing to do, but it liberated me, because I no longer feel chained to one party or another,” Navarro said. “And it’s forced me to look at what candidates stand for, what their policies are, what they are proposing, what I want.”

Navarro added that personal experiences have since influenced which political issues she considers when evaluating candidates. She concluded, “So I do think that evolving means living, and living means evolving.”
