Netflix wants Tyra’s defamation claims on “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model” dismissed
Netflix reportedly filed documents asking a judge to dismiss Banks’ defamation claims, according to US Weekly. The request followed the lawsuit she filled the streaming platform. Banks claimed she was manipulated into participating in the documentary. She also challenged how her interview was edited.
A Netflix spokesperson defended the documentary and its filmmakers. Directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy were described as respected documentarians. The company said they thoroughly interviewed people behind “America’s Next Top Model.” Netflix also said Banks had opportunities to discuss her experiences openly.
The streaming giants claimed Banks’ perspective was fairly presented in the series. It said her comments appeared alongside those of other participants. Netflix also said it stood behind “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.” The company vowed to continue defending the documentary.
Banks previously claimed she participated to discuss “ANTM” honestly with viewers. Her lawsuit said she completed a three-and-a-half-hour interview. She reportedly discussed the show’s history, successes, and shortcomings. Banks also addressed decisions she would approach differently today.
However, Banks claimed only 16 minutes reached the final documentary. She alleged the footage was stripped of context and rearranged. Her attorneys argued the edits materially distorted her words. They also challenged Netflix to release her complete interview footage.
Banks also addressed allegations involving inappropriate conduct. Her lawsuit claimed she escalated one reported issue to network executives. She said production was paused for sexual harassment training. Banks requested a jury trial to determine appropriate damages.
Netflix’s latest filing could now affect how the legal battle proceeds. The court must consider the streaming platform’s request before the case advances. Meanwhile, Banks’ attorneys continued defending her allegations. They argued viewers deserved an accurate representation of her words and experiences.
