Nancy Guthrie‘s search has taken another unexpected turn. A neighbor claimed investigators returned to the area surrounding the missing Arizona woman’s home following recent monsoon storms. The reported activity comes more than six months after Guthrie disappeared. However, local authorities disputed that any official task force search had recently taken place.
Neighbor claims FBI searched brush near missing Nancy Guthrie’s home after monsoon
According to Fox News Digital, an anonymous neighbor said she saw people she believed were FBI agents searching the desert brush behind Guthrie’s Tucson home. The resident claimed she recognized several faces from earlier searches conducted during the investigation. The neighbor suggested investigators appeared to be examining vegetation and terrain that may have changed after the storms.
However, a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said that no task force investigators had recently returned to the neighborhood. The FBI has not publicly confirmed any new search activity.
Retired Pima County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant Bob Krygier said Arizona’s monsoon season can dramatically reshape the landscape. He explained, “A lot of water has come down… and it pushes things,” adding that rocks and debris can be displaced by powerful floodwaters.
Krygier also described fast-moving floodwaters as “a big blender,” saying they can move trees, rocks, and other objects that could potentially expose previously hidden evidence. Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on January 31 after returning home from dinner with family in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills. Investigators have continued searching for answers, but no arrests have been made.
Security footage previously showed a masked individual outside her home before her disappearance. Despite that evidence, authorities have not identified a suspect or announced any breakthrough.
The investigation has also drawn attention because of reported disagreements between the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Chris Nanos previously said family communications had shifted to the FBI, while FBI Director Kash Patel disputed aspects of the agency’s early involvement in the case.
