Jennifer Coffindaffer says she received four ransom emails tied to the Nancy Guthrie case, including one featuring an AI image of the missing woman. The former FBI agent shared the details in a recent NewsNation report, as EntertainmentNow reported.
Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer revealed suspicious ransom emails featuring an AI-generated image of Nancy
Coffindaffer, a former FBI agent and NewsNation contributor, says she received four ransom emails in April, months after Guthrie disappeared, per EntertainmentNow. One demanded Bitcoin for Guthrie’s release, while another featured an AI-generated image of Nancy meant to tug at people’s emotions. The messages also included Bible verses.
Coffindaffer never responded and reported the emails to the FBI. She said the agency had informed her about a mismatch in the Bitcoin address. It did not match the one found in notes believed to be legitimate. She added that the demands were relatively low, at one or two bitcoins.
She decided to speak out after learning that Guthrie’s neighbor, Lauren Serpa, received a similar note. Coffindaffer worries others could “fall for the ploy.” She also suspects an organized group is behind the emails. She pointed out that her personal email address is not publicly available.
Coffindaffer also believes she was targeted because of her public advice to law enforcement about the case, according to NewsNation.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department recently said investigators found a possible ransom note not credible and urged the public to report any such communications. Authorities also warned people not to send money or personal information in response to unsolicited messages.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was taken from her Tucson, Arizona, home in the early hours of February 1, according to investigators. The disappearance is being investigated as a kidnapping for ransom, but no suspect has been publicly named and she has not been found.
The department has said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Mandatory has also reported on the possible third ransom note that emerged last month.
