Keke Palmer reminded Winfrey about her short-lived theme song during the podcast appearance. Palmer began singing the tune, prompting Winfrey to immediately react with embarrassment. “Girl, please,’ Winfrey said before describing the decision as one of her career mistakes. Her response showed she still remembered the experience vividly.
Winfrey explained that the song emerged during a major decision about her television future. She had been considering whether to continue hosting her long-running daytime talk show. During that period, she said she turned to her faith for guidance. That spiritual reflection eventually inspired her to record an old spiritual song.
The song, titled “Run On,” became Winfrey’s talk show theme during the late 1990s. However, the television icon soon realised she faced one significant problem with the performance. “And then we realised, I can’t sing,” she joked, despite having taken singing lessons. Even a church choir could not convince her that the recording worked.
Winfrey later delivered an especially honest verdict about her brief musical experiment. “It was bad. You know it was bad,” she admitted. Her comments offered a humorous look at a rare misstep from her celebrated career. The moment also showed that Winfrey could laugh at her own past decisions.
The unusual career moment did not last long. Winfrey’s singing chapter remained brief, while her television career continued for decades. “The Oprah Winfrey Show” eventually completed its 25-season run in 2011. Whitney Houston also playfully sang part of “Run On” during one of her appearances. Winfrey never returned to recording music after the unusual experiment.
