Harris appeared on Palmer’s podcast, “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer,” in an episode released Tuesday, Oct. 13. Palmer recalled interviewing Harris for the first time in 2023 before asking about her life beyond politics. She also noted that Harris has been campaigning for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm elections. Palmer asked how Harris balances her personal life with the demands of being a public figure.

Harris admitted that managing both sides of her life can be hard. “It can be difficult. It can be very difficult, Keke,” she told Palmer. She then acknowledged the online jokes and memes about her laugh. “I’m aware of the, whatever the memes are about my laugh,” Harris added.

The former vice president said she understands what critics want to achieve with their comments. “Those who try to take your joy are trying to make you weak, and that’s where my fight comes in,” she explained. Harris also spoke out in a clear message to anyone who mocks her. “There is nothing you can do to me that will take my joy; you are not that powerful,” she said.

Harris also spoke about the women who influenced her while she was growing up. “I was raised in a family that included very powerful women, who laughed from their bellies,” she told Palmer. She explained that her own laugh reflects that family background.
