Ryan Gosling finally got his wish after Lionsgate corrected his infamous hand gesture. The change appeared on a new La La Land poster celebrating the film’s upcoming 10th anniversary. Gosling previously admitted that the original image had “haunted” him for years.
Ryan Gosling’s ‘La La Land’ hand finally gets fixed
The updated poster showed Gosling and Emma Stone dancing beneath a Los Angeles lamppost. Their characters appeared to be caught in a romantic dance. However, one small detail had changed from the original artwork.
Gosling’s previously flared hand was edited to better match Stone’s pose. Her hand simply followed the natural line of her raised arm. The adjustment finally addressed a complaint Gosling had repeatedly joked about.
During a 2024 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Gosling discussed the poster’s original design. He admitted that the image had become something he could not stop noticing. “It just killed the energy that way,” he said.
Gosling also gave the infamous pose a memorable nickname. He jokingly called the awkward gesture “La La Hand.” The actor explained that he had no idea that the dance moment would become the film’s promotional image.
The actor revisited the joke while promoting Project Hail Mary earlier this year. Gosling recreated the famous pose at the same Los Angeles overlook. However, he appeared with Rocky, his character’s alien companion, instead of Stone.
Now, Lionsgate has officially corrected the image after nearly a decade. The studio reportedly contacted Gosling before making the change. According to USA Today, the actor approved the updated poster.
Lionsgate executive Justin Manfredi reportedly described the adjustment as small but significant. He said the difference was “like night and day.” The studio also celebrated the change with the playful message, “Well, Ryan, you have been heard!”
The new poster arrived ahead of La La Land’s 10th anniversary. The musical romance originally premiered in 2016 and became a major success. After years of teasing the image, his “La La Hand” saga has finally reached its happy ending.
