Press secretary Karoline Leavitt delivered the news at a Thursday briefing. “We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending,” she told reporters. She marks the visit as a proud moment, saying his presence would top off “the most watched, most secure, and most successful World Cup in American history.”
The president has one more event before the World Cup final. Leavitt said he will head to New York City on Friday for a FIFA reception, hosted at Trump Tower in Manhattan. From there, he will come to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday to watch Argentina and Spain decide the title.
Trump’s attendance had been widely expected after FIFA President Gianni Infantino said last month that the two would attend the final together and present the trophy to the winners. The White House, however, stopped short of confirming whether Trump would take part in the trophy presentation.
Trump also attended last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, where he drew attention by remaining on the podium as Chelsea celebrated with the trophy.
Sunday’s match will mark Trump’s first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after he skipped the tournament’s earlier fixtures. According to the White House, his attendance will close out a competition it says showcased the United States to a global audience
