Jelly Roll Says One Cheat Meal Can Trigger Brutal Food Binge

Jelly Roll got candid about one of the toughest parts of his dramatic weight-loss journey, revealing that a single cheat meal could quickly spiral into days of unhealthy eating. The country star admitted his relationship with food still required constant discipline despite losing an impressive 275 pounds.

The emotional confession came as the singer, born Jason DeFord, continued navigating major personal changes, including his ongoing divorce from Bunnie Xo. He explained that food addiction remained a daily battle, even after making significant progress with his health.

Jelly Roll admitted that a single cheat meal can send him into a five-day binge

Jelly Roll opened up during a conversation with influencer Salvatore Reedus on his YouTube channel, where he admitted he had recently been “overeating” and “stress-eating.” He traced the setback to eating a dairy-free skillet cookie after a concert.

The singer compared his eating habits to addiction, explaining why he avoided cheat meals altogether. “I don’t eat nothing like that. I’m like a drug addict,” he said. “You can’t eat that ‘cause if I ate one, I’ll eat two. I’ll eat four.” He recalled later stopping at a taco truck before searching for a chocolate bar at a rest stop.

Jelly Roll admitted the cravings quickly snowballed once he gave in. He likened the experience to “the taste of blood,” explaining that it then took nearly a week to get back on track.

He also acknowledged that moderation simply didn’t work for him. As he explained, he couldn’t have “anything” because he approached food the same way he once approached alcohol and drugs. “Either we’re smoking all day, we’re drinking all night, we’re doing coke,” he said while describing his all-or-nothing mindset.

Despite the setback, Jelly Roll said he had learned to be kinder to himself. According to the publication, he encouraged others not to punish themselves after a bad meal, saying, “It’s okay to have a bad meal. It’s okay to have a bad day.”

In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, Jelly Roll said overcoming his “food addiction” had been the biggest challenge because he had “never had a healthy relationship with food.”
