Prince Harry’s latest UK visit has reignited discussion about his relationship with the royal family and the challenges surrounding his trips home. Amid the renewed attention, a royal editor claimed palace insiders used the same three-word nickname for Harry and his uncle, ex-Prince Andrew.
Prince Harry and ex-Prince Andrew were reportedly called ‘dukes of hazard’
Harry returned to the UK this week for events connected to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. However, his visit has made headlines beyond the sporting event. Reports have focused on his accommodation, security concerns, and his ongoing legal battle over police protection. Amid the coverage, The Times royal editor Kate Mansey claimed that palace aides once nicknamed Harry and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the “Dukes of Hazard.”
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast, Mansey explained the reported nickname. “It was ‘Dukes of Hazard,’ that’s the nickname they had for Andrew and Harry because hazard, chaos, followed both of them,” she said. According to Mansey, palace staff viewed the pair as recurring challenges for the monarchy. “They were the two big problems that were pointed out to me by courtiers, big hurdles for the King during his reign. Alarm signals flash every time their names are mentioned,” she added.
Harry arrived in Britain to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which Birmingham will host next July. However, reports about where Harry would stay during the visit quickly overshadowed the event. Representatives for the Duke of Sussex said Buckingham Palace initially offered him accommodation. They claimed Harry delayed accepting the offer while trying to resolve his private security arrangements following the loss of taxpayer-funded police protection. According to his representatives, the Palace later withdrew the offer.
“The people I’m speaking to at the Palace, it’s a pattern of behaviour,” Mansey continued by pointing to recurring speculation ahead of Harry’s arrivals. “For weeks beforehand there’s briefings from his camp, what’s going to happen, maybe the children are going to come, he wants to bring the children, then we have the familiar row over security,” she said.
