Kate Middleton Uses Alternative Name in Surprise Donation During Three Peaks Challenge

Kate Middleton made a heartfelt gesture after taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend.

The Princess of Wales later surprised an 11-year-old boy she met during the trek by leaving a personal message and making a donation in support of his charitable cause. The donation note was signed with a rarely used name.

Kate Middleton used the rare name ‘Catherine Wales’ when making a surprise donation during the Three Peaks Challenge

The Princess of Wales, 44, spent the weekend climbing the highest mountains in the U.K. within 24 hours. The challenge included Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. Middleton undertook the challenge to raise awareness about life after cancer and to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which treated her after her 2024 cancer diagnosis.

It was during the trek that she met 11-year-old Ted Haslam, who was taking the challenge with the help of his family. People reports that the Princess made a donation of between £1,000 and £2,000 to Ted and his cause.

The donation came with a personal note. Middleton wrote, “One of the real highlights of the Three Peaks Challenge was meeting inspiring people like you along the way. Huge congratulations to the entire team for raising money for such a wonderful cause.”

The princess used the unusual name “Catherine Wales” when making the donation to Ted Haslam’s JustGiving page in support of the charity Molly Ollys, which provided him with play equipment when he was previously hospitalized. The name combines her first name with her title as the Princess of Wales. While the royal family’s official surname is Mountbatten-Windsor, members of the family often use their territorial titles as surnames when one is required. Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also use “Wales” as their surname at school.
