CES 2016: Sony Unveils the Next Step for TVs with the BRAVIA 4K HDR

Sony has taken another big step in the TV market, adding to an increasing pool of manufacturers who are touting 4K HDR as the future of our viewing habits with their BRAVIA 4K HDR line.

Sony made the unveiling of its new TV at CES 2016, with the BRAVIA 4K HDR set to boast higher brightness, higher contrast and more vibrant colours than previous TVs from the manufacturer. Powered by Android TV, the BRAVIA 4K HDR line, led by the XD93, will see the ultra HD resolutions of 4K paired with high dynamic range, allowing for brighter images with greater clarity.

HDR has been a buzzword for the likes of the smartphone industry, though it only really gained traction with TV hardware in 2015 as services such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video began streaming in the format. Sony has had 4K covered for some time, though with the introduction of its Slim Backlight Drive and X-tended Dynamic Range PRO, the company can now specifically manage the light area in each specific zone of its hardware, allowing for brighter whites, darker shadows and more vivid coloring.

This is then complemented by Sony’s patented Triluminos display, something which the company has been breathlessly promoting since 2013, which allows the TV to reproduce a wider color range at any brightness level.

Sony has continued to opt for its ‘Slice of Living’ hardware aesthetic for the BRAVIA 4K HDR, which seeks to make its product blend seamlessly into consumers’ living rooms with their minimalist design, going for clean, geometric shapes for the complemented by accents in champagne gold and silver. It’s slightly curved, too, along with being ultra slim – according to Sony,  “when hung against the wall the television is so close that it can appear to be flush to the wall.”

The Sony BRAVIA 4K HDR will be made available in Spring.
