Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones Gets a New Title

When Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones languished in development at ABC, it was retitled because there was already an ABC TV series called Alias a few years prior to its release. The title character, Jessica Jones was created in the pages of Alias by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos around the same time that the Alias TV series premiered. Without the name change, some brand confusion was likely to happen.

A.K.A. Jessica Jones jumped to Netflix in the same deal that brought Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the team-up miniseries, The Defenders into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A.K.A. Jessica Jones even kept showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and the title.

However, Marvel and Netflix have apparently decided to rebrand the show once again. TennantNews was the first site to notice that Netflix’s landing page for the series has been retitled “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”

Krysten Ritter stars in the series as Jessica Jones, a former superheroine struggling with PTSD as she attempts to rebuild her life as a private detective. Former Doctor Who star David Tennant plays Jessica’s nemesis, Kilgrave, who is better known to comic book fans as the Purple Man. Mike Colter costars as Luke Cage before graduating to his own series in 2016.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is still expected to premiere on Netflix in 2015, with all 13 episodes released simultaneously.
