Marvel Hero To Get New Project After Series Cancellation – Report

A new report suggests that one of Marvel’s most debated street-level heroes could be heading back. Years after his standalone series was canceled, Iron Fist may finally get another shot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

New Iron Fist project rumored to be in development

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, a new project centered on Danny Rand is currently in the works. The insider wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “A new project with Danny Rand’s Iron Fist as a lead is in development at Marvel Studio.” Marvel has not confirmed the report.

Earlier, the scooper shared that Luke Cage and Iron Fist will get their own show as well. It could be that the abovementioned project is the same as that one, or it could be a standalone show taking Iron Fist’s story forward.

If this turns out to be accurate, it would mark a full-circle moment for a show that was once left in limbo. Back in 2018, Netflix made the call to end Marvel’s Iron Fist after two seasons. The decision came not long after the second batch of episodes had debuted. In a shared announcement with the streaming platform, Marvel stated, “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix” (via Deadline).

The statement continued, “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

That final line from the joint statement appears almost prophetic now. The path back to relevance for Danny Rand probably runs directly through Hell’s Kitchen. Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ has already brought several former Netflix characters into the official MCU fold, including Daredevil, Wilson Fisk, Punisher, Bullseye, and Karen Page. Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones is expected to join them shortly.

Recent photos indicated that Luke Cage and Iron Fist will also appear, effectively pulling nearly the entire Defenders roster into the current continuity. So if the new rumor holds water, this won’t be the last time audiences see the Iron Fist.
