Marvel Studios is reportedly searching for writers for a new Defenders-related project. Insider MyTimeToShineHello shared the scoop on X, stating, “A new Defenders related project is looking for writers at Marvel Studios.” The post appeared recently and quickly gained traction among fans online.
The original Defenders lineup in the Marvel Cinematic Universe featured four street-level heroes. Matt Murdock’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand’s Iron Fist formed the team. They united in the 2017 Netflix limited series The Defenders to battle the Hand in New York City.
Marvel Studios has already brought several Netflix-era characters back into the MCU fold. Daredevil: Born Again launched its first season and brought Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock back to the spotlight. Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk also returned prominently across multiple MCU projects in recent years.
The Defenders team disbanded after destroying the Hand beneath Midland Circle in New York. Murdock was presumed dead after staying behind during the building’s collapse, but managed to survive. Each member returned to their individual missions across the city after the battle concluded.
A new project could reunite the original four heroes or introduce an entirely different roster. The comic book Defenders have featured drastically different lineups over the decades. The original Marvel Comics team included Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor, and Silver Surfer instead of the street-level heroes.
