Battlefield 4 on PS4 Will Run Higher Than 720p with 60FPS

Tired of 30 frames per second in your shooters? That might be a thing of the past.

The popular YouTube user JackFrags posted on Twitter earlier today that “BF4 on PS4 runs at 720p upscaled to 1080p and solid 60 fps”, which was supposedly confirmed by DICE Creative Director Lars Gustavsson. The news quickly blew up with gamers unhappy about the ‘last-generation resolution’. Since then, JackFrags has posted the following:

To clarify: BF4 running at a higher resolution than 720p in the PS4 dev environment. Final resolution when the game is optimised at launch!

As with just about every game that’s gone through a development cycle, polishing comes last, and part of polish is optimization. With two months left until BF4‘s release, DICE has plenty of time to fine-tune the game for the next-generation’s premier hardware. Whether it’ll be able to deliver 60FPS with 1080p is yet to be determined, but chances are it might have to find a middle-ground.

Truthfully, how good BF4 looks on next-gen consoles is important. Battlefield 3 has remained one of the most beautiful and hardware-demanding games on the PC, and if similar visuals can be delivered by $399 hardware, then Sony will have a much easier time selling units.

An open beta for BF4 will become available in October for PC. If you’d like to experience first-hand what DICE has accomplished since its last release then be sure to sign up.
