Avengers: Doomsday’s runtime may not be as short as co-director Anthony Russo recently suggested. A new leak from a well-known scooper claims the film’s current cut runs significantly longer than what the filmmaker previously indicated.
Why Avengers: Doomsday’s runtime could be shorter than Endgame
Scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently shared a new update on Avengers: Doomsday’s runtime on X. “The current cut of Doomsday is still over 3 hours,” the insider wrote. “They’re trying to get it under 2h 50 without cutting the big moments.”
If the final cut lands under that target, Doomsday would still be shorter than Avengers: Endgame. The 2019 film ran for three hours and one minute in theaters. That makes it the longest movie in MCU history to date.
Co-director Anthony Russo previously addressed the film’s length in an interview with Fandango. He described Doomsday as “a two-and-a-half hour movie or so.” Russo emphasized the need for a tight narrative despite the film’s massive ensemble cast. “You’re sitting through it, and it’s a focused propulsive narrative that has like an organizing principle at its center, and everything has to orbit around that,” Russo said.
Earlier reports already pointed to a longer version of the film. A 165-minute runtime surfaced ahead of ticket sales earlier this year. A test screening reportedly ran at the same length as well. Rotten Tomatoes, meanwhile, currently lists the movie at two hours and 45 minutes. That listing could still change before the film arrives in theaters.
The gap between Russo’s comments and the latest leak suggests editing remains ongoing. Avengers: Infinity War ran for 149 minutes, offering a closer comparison point. Russo also noted that he and his brother Joe take a “very character-based” approach to their films. “That’s part of the creative challenge for Joe and I is just figuring out what that orbit is and how it all smashes together,” he added. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
