For Chris Riches, the celebrity battle is now firmly in the Waleses’ favor. In his view, Prince William and Kate Middleton are outdoing the Sussexes at their own game.
He notes that prior to “Megxit,” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared to be more adept at mixing with A-listers. Riches suggests that this dates back to 2018, when the couple was already laying the groundwork for their departure for their royal exit and actively courting celebrity circles.
The columnist also points to the pair’s high-profile Oprah Winfrey interview as an overt attempt to appeal to Hollywood, one that came across as bitter and lacking evidence. Now based in the celebrity-heavy Cotswolds, Riches believes that their intention is to position themselves as the royals of choice for the rich and famous in the UK.
However, he noted that the future King and Queen have become savvy to that playbook and are executing it more effectively and graciously. A recent example was Prince William’s appearance on the BBC’s “The Graham Norton Show” to promote his Earthshot Prize and its green agenda.
