Spider-Man 5 may finally deliver on a promise Marvel made five years ago. A new rumor hints at a fan-favorite hero joining Tom Holland in the upcoming sequel.
Daredevil rumored to return in live-action Spider-Man 5
Daredevil may suit up alongside Spider-Man in the upcoming fifth live-action installment. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello hinted at Daredevil’s return on X (formerly Twitter) by responding to a post about Charlie Cox’s appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2. The scooper quote-posted the news and teased, “And the next live action Spider-Man.” This appears to suggest Cox could reprise his role as Matt Murdock in the untitled Spider-Man 5.
Cox first appeared as Daredevil alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor played Peter Parker’s lawyer during a brief but memorable scene in the 2021 film. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously hinted at a future team-up between the two heroes. Fans have long anticipated a deeper collaboration between the street-level characters.
Cox currently leads Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. The show’s first season premiered in March 2025 and received strong viewership numbers. His upcoming animated appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 premieres on January 13, 2027. That role further cements Cox’s presence across multiple corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sony and Marvel Studios have not officially announced the cast for Spider-Man 5. However, Holland confirmed his return as Peter Parker earlier this year. Destin Daniel Cretton directs the sequel, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers writing the screenplay. The film currently targets a July 2027 release window.
MyTimeToShineHello has a mixed track record with Marvel scoops but has broken legitimate news before. The scooper did not provide additional details about Daredevil’s potential role in the film. Fans reacted enthusiastically to the tease, with many expressing excitement about a proper team-up. Marvel Studios typically keeps casting details under wraps until official announcements.
