Rob Riggle & Donald Faison’s Divisive Christmas Horror Movie Releases in Theaters Today

Rob Riggle‘s new Christmas horror comedy is now out in theaters. The Kevin Lewis-helmed movie also includes Ron Livingston, Donald Faison, and more.

Briarcliff Entertainment’s Christmas at the Kringles has hit the theaters today. Its story revolves around the Seversons. They enter a quiet suburban neighborhood only to encounter the mysterious Kringles who celebrate Christmas throughout the year instead of a single day.

Ahead of its debut, the film has failed to gain positive momentum. Most critics aren’t impressed. At the time of writing, it holds a very poor 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 20 reviews.

How Christmas at the Kringles assembled its comedy-packed cast

The main cast of Christmas at the Kringles involves Ron Livingston, Rachel Bilson, Riggle, and Faison. Livingston and Bilson are best known for Office Space and The O.C., respectively. Meanwhile, Riggle and Faison are popular comedians. They are mostly known for their performances in Modern Family and The Exes, respectively.

During a recent interaction with Phantasmag, the horror-comedy’s cast and director discussed how everyone came together early in production. “It was my wife’s fascination with Hallmark movies,” said Lewis while discussing how the movie came into existence. “I love taking this holiday and adding a twist to it. I also love the blend of horror and comedy, so it was all about walking that tightrope and then adding that Christmas flavour in.”

It was this blend that compelled Rachel Bilson to join the cast. “I heard Christmas horror comedy, and I was like, Oh, my gosh, I’ll absolutely do it — I don’t even need to read the script,” she said. Livingston and Riggle were already part of the cast, “and then it all just kept coming together with Arden and Tom Lennon joining.”

As for Arden Myrin, who plays Carol Kringle, she joined after cinematographer Brandon Cox suggested her name. The pair had already worked together on Netflix comedy Free Bert Season 1. The ensemble cast also includes Thomas Lennon, Beverly D’Angelo, and David Wain in key roles.

Christmas at the Kringles is now playing in theaters.
