King Charles reportedly wants Prince Harry to decide on his ties to the monarchy. Reports say King Charles insists on keeping private family life and royal responsibilities separate. However, this may make Prince Harry feel unwelcome following his U.K. return.
King Charles wants Prince Harry to decide on the ‘kind of relationship he wants with the monarchy,’ per source
According to OK! Magazine, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are rebuilding their lives in the Cotswolds with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, this has not changed their status as non-working members of the royal family status. The Sussexes gave up their royal duties and moved to California. Six years later, the family has moved back to Britain amid ongoing family tensions.
The dispute stems from a letter circulated by the Lord Chamberlain on the King’s instructions. The letter described them as “no longer working members of the royal family” and their position as akin to that of “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.” Additionally, sources say that Prince William has stressed the importance of keeping private conversations confidential in case he reunites with his brother.
King Charles reportedly wants to keep things as they are for his younger son, after he and Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020. However, he also wants to maintain a closer relationship with his son and grandchildren.
“The central dispute is not whether Harry can live in Britain, but whether he can pursue high-profile charitable and commercial activities without creating confusion over his official royal status,” a palace insider told the publication.
The insider also explained that King Charles largely wants to maintain a delicate relationship with Harry and his grandchildren. They also said that the King’s insistence on boundaries between private and public lives may impact Harry’s future in the U.K. “It is this business-first mindset that is upsetting Harry, and he sees it as so harsh it may push him into a move back to America,” he added.
As it stands, the King wants to maintain his ties, while sustaining the “institutional arrangements” that were in place after their royal exit.
