This time, several hosts of The View took issue with how Kelly discussed the actress’ ongoing health uncertainty. The panel defended Applegate after Kelly questioned her emotional response to learning that doctors may have misdiagnosed her with multiple sclerosis. Ana Navarro went even further, comparing Kelly to a “fungus.”

During the Oct. 22 episode, the Megyn Kelly The View hosts’ dispute became a major Hot Topics discussion. In a clip shared by The View on X, Whoopi Goldberg questioned Kelly’s suggestion that Applegate had benefited from becoming closely associated with MS. “Are you crazy?” Goldberg asked while discussing the remarks.
Kelly had previously criticized Applegate after the actress revealed that doctors now question her 2021 MS diagnosis. Kelly suggested Applegate had taken listeners on a “wild goose chase” and questioned her years of public advocacy.
Applegate, however, has stressed that the revised diagnosis does not mean her health problems disappeared. She recently revealed that she remains “back at square one” as doctors continue searching for the cause of her symptoms.
Navarro delivered one of the panel’s sharpest responses. She said Kelly was “like a fungus that thrives on oxygen” by creating outrage around sensitive subjects. Sunny Hostin also criticized Kelly’s approach and called her comments “ugly.” Meanwhile, Goldberg urged Kelly to reconsider her position and show more understanding toward Applegate’s situation.
The controversy began after Kelly questioned Applegate’s years of speaking publicly about MS. Her remarks also sparked criticism from former friend Janice Dean, who has lived with MS for more than 20 years.
Dean defended Applegate’s advocacy and revealed that her friendship with Kelly had fallen apart.
For now, Applegate remains focused on finding answers about her health. However, discussion of Kelly’s reaction continues to grow.
