DC Studios may be preparing a new magical heavy hitter. A latest rumor claims the DCU will soon introduce a witch, a move that could put the franchise in direct competition with Marvel’s Scarlet Witch. Nothing is confirmed, and DC has not yet commented on this rumor.
DCU rumored to introduce a ‘witch’
The buzz started when known scooper @JamesMackwl posted on X: “a “witch” is coming to the DCU.” The post gives no name, no project, and no timeline. The scooper also put the word witch in quotation marks, which leaves room for interpretation. The character could be a literal witch, a sorceress, or another magic user. Until DC Studios confirms a casting or a project, treat the claim as speculation.
Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff, is one of Marvel’s best-known magic wielders. She has held the title of Marvel’s Queen of Chaos and Empress of Magik. If the DCU wants a female magic user with that kind of star power, it would need a character who can carry big storylines. DC’s comics already have a long history of spellcasters, so the studio has plenty of source material to draw from. The rumor doesn’t say which character, if any, DC has in mind.
Moreover, magic is not new territory for the studio. Its first slate, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, leans supernatural, and it includes a Swamp Thing film. Gunn also teased the supernatural hero Deadman on social media. Fans have long hoped for more spellcasters. The wish list for Chapter One has included Zatanna, a sorceress who casts spells by speaking backwards, and a Justice League Dark-style team has drawn speculation. None of that is confirmed, and the rumor does not name her.
So, DC fans have plenty of reason to hope. A strong magic-based character would add variety to a universe still taking shape. It would also give audiences a brand new rival to the biggest sorceress in Marvel. For now, the rumor is one cryptic post and a lot of curiosity.
